Prize FAQ

• Who is eligible to win the Freedom Prize? When are applications due? Eligibility guidelines and deadlines will be published for the first set of Freedom Prizes (Schools) in Spring 2010.
• How is it funded? The Freedom Prize Foundation received a $5M allocation from the Department of Energy as seed funding to launch the Freedom Prizes. Additional sponsorships will be pursued to continue the prizes into the future.
• How much money can I win? The Freedom Prizes will range in dollar amount depending on the type of challenges and the category.
• How are the winners selected? The winners will be selected through a screening process which will include members of the Freedom Prize Foundation, in consultation with our Advisory Board, the Department of Energy and other experts in the field.
• When will the prizes be awarded? How many prizes will be awarded? The Freedom Prizes will announce various prizes in the 5 categories on a rolling basis. We will publish a corresponding timeline for each set of prizes.

• How can I stay up-to-date on any Prize development? Sign up to receive updates from the Freedom Prize Foundation.
• Can you fund my new technology/research project? We are not funding technology R&D projects. The Freedom Prize seeks to reward proven results!
• How can I apply for a grant? We are not a traditional grantmaking organization. We seek to reward existing achievement for oil displacement or to pose challenges and reward the winners of these challenges at the end of a given time period.
