Prize FAQ

• Who is eligible to win the Freedom Prize? When are applications due? Eligibility guidelines and deadlines will be published in the Fall of 2008.
• How is it funded? The Freedom Prize Foundation received a $5M allocation from the Department of Energy as seed funding to launch the Freedom Prizes. Additional sponsorships will be pursued to continue the prizes into the future.
• How much money can I win? The Freedom Prizes will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500K to $1M.
• How are the winners selected? The winners will be selected through a screening process which will include members of the Freedom Prize Foundation, in consultation with our Advisory Board, the Department of Energy and other experts in the field.
• When will the prizes be awarded? How many prizes will be awarded? Winners will be announced in the Spring of 2009.
